First Oil Paintings

Yellow Cactus Bloom, oil painting by Regina Lord of Creative Kismet

I learned about water-soluble oil paints a while back and decided to give them a try.  I've always avoided oil paints because of the hazardous solvents. I bought a set of 20 Windsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oils.

They have been formulated to be used without hazardous solvents and can be cleaned up with water. Otherwise, they work and feel like regular oil paints.

My preferred medium is acrylic paints, so these will take some getting used to. I won't be switching to only oils, but it is really fun to challenge myself in this way and get used to the much slower process of oil paints.

I especially enjoyed doing this little portrait painting. It was nice to have more time to work on the skin tones.  I'd love to do more portrait painting in the future when I have more time.
